Term Information [More information on interleukin-12 complex]

Accession
GO:0043514
Name
interleukin-12 complex
Ontology
cellular_component
Synonyms
IL-12 complex, IL12A, IL12B, p35, p40
Definition
A protein complex that is composed of an interleukin-12 alpha (p35, product of the IL12A gene) and an interleukin-12 beta subunit (p40, product of the IL12B gene) and is secreted into the extracellular space. Source: PMID:12948519, PMID:1381512, GOC:ebc, GOC:mah, GOC:add
Comment
Note that this heterodimeric cytokine utilizes the IL-12p35 subunit as its alpha chain, which is also used by IL-35 as its alpha chain, and utilizes the IL-12p40 subunit as its beta chain, which is also used by IL-23 as its beta chain.
